Washington mourns as Mrs. Wilson dies. Funeral to be private in two parts with service in the White House East Room at 2 PM, then train to Rome Georgia for interment at Myrtle Hill Cemetery beside her parents. Rev Sylvester Beach of Princeton noted as a family friend.
General Patrick, Servian War Minister, directed the wedding services for Mrs. McAdoo and Mrav Sayre and is expected to conduct the funeral. The White House learned Mrs. Wilson’s sister Mrs. Edward Elliott is ill in California and cannot attend. Three telegraph operators handled sympathy messages from prominent figures to the president.
New York August 8 The Cunard liner Lusitania sped toward Europe sending wireless word that all was well. The message gave no position and was the first from the liner since she cleared the harbor Wednesday morning amid rumors she faced pursuit by German war vessels.

War updates report Germans pressing Belgian defenses at Liege after a rejected armistice demand. French columns 200 000 strong move through Belgium as volleys of shells roar, Belgian fire wounds and kills many attackers, and reports claim German casualties and prisoner captures amid a broader German invasion from Ekennes and a looming major offensive along the French advance lines.
Paris reports detail violent street fighting as German troops push toward Liege after entering the Belgian city. Belgian defenses claim 27 German cannons captured and 25,000 German casualties admitted. French forces have reportedly advanced into Belgium while King Albert refuses an armistice.
The bombardment of Liege by German forces caused heavy casualties and fires. German officers with a white flag demanded surrender, were refused, and resumed bombardment as martial law spread in Belgium. Forts remained intact though, with fierce street actions and a Uhlan patrol entering the town amid casualties on both sides. Red Cross reports show many dead and wounded outside the forts.
