At the convention in August 3 the Philadelphia figure Henry K Bayer and Henry Hail led the nominations for state treasurer. Walter Lyon chaired the event with Andrews re-elected as chairman. Delamater received praise for administration and Quays leadership. The convention adjourned after Boyer received a unanimous nomination amid applause.
The Pennsylvania Republican platform adopts the Chicago a platform of June 19, endorses Harrison and the national party, and seeks to restore Republican governance, curb reconstruction excesses, and improve taxation and public education while reducing corrupt practices and safeguarding elections. The motion credits Gen Reeder and Matthew Stanley Quar for campaign leadership and highlights support for a strong national Republican organization.

A yacht named Cadar Ridge owned by L. Crocker of East Buffalo caught fire after an explosion, burning rapidly and sinking. John Rubenstein, a dock worker, died aboard. Crocker’s son and daughter also perished, while Ethel and Larney Crowker survived, and Mrs Crocker and other passengers were rescued or killed. A nearby boy drowned, and a fire crew faced desperate efforts to save victims as flames spread across the vessel. In the Coke region strikers at Redstone works join the walkout. Gallatin operators granted an advance, spurring further action. Frick & Co. offer 11/2 to 2 percent raises, McClure & Co. seeking a 10 percent compromise. A mass meeting of about 19,000 workers adopts a resolution for uniform prices and a 1 cent per bushel minimum, with proportionate wages for all labor. Cars idle at western mills. some Ohio and Illinois plants heavily crippled.
President Harrison with Secretaries Windom and Proctor surveyed Boston's suburbs and Faneuil Hall welcome. Crowds packed streets and hall as the president met officials, dined with Mayor Hart, and addressed supporters before a suburban drive and press club reception.
