Refuse Dumping Fight Near Middletown Branch
State Health Department officials renew efforts to stop refuse dumping into Tanners Branch in Middletown. The polluted stream in the town center feeds Middle Creek, already affected by pollution. Middletown officials deny pressure from the department to install a sanitary sewer system and say there is no evidence of harm to food from dents unless leakage is present.

Uranium Shipments to Russia Under World War II Lend-Lease
Rep McDowell charges U S sent significant uranium metal to the Soviet Union as late as 1945 after earlier 1943 ship ments of 2,720 pounds of uranium compounds. He cites 1,300 pounds of compounds in 1943 and 560 pounds of nitrate and oxide shipped via Great Falls to Moscow. McDowell says metal shipments in 1945 were to appease Soviet requests.
