City closes waiting list for public housing units

Carroll Creek Crawfish Delight Sparks Backyard Hunt

Lehigh Cement Plant to Burn Tires as Fuel in Maryland

The state plans to issue Lehigh Portland Cement a permit to burn scrap tires as fuel in its kilns after MDE approval of the emissions application. ESSROC Manufacturing is the only other local company permitted to use tires as fuel, with a public hearing earlier and another pending. A site visit is set, and challengers may request a hearing by August 14.

Middletown bypass tops Frederick County priority list

The Frederick County Commissioners designated the Middletown bypass as the number one priority for state highway funds and urged funding for the Woodsboro bypass. Delegates said state officials have pushed bypasses to the back of the queue as new revenue sources are sought, making progress unlikely. The list, showing Md. 75 and Md. 464 corridor projects, was endorsed by the county council.

Lifeguards help in a beltway first aid save

Two Frederick County men Jon Fish and Larry Zerne both lifeguards at Marlboro County Club acted fast on the Beltway near Pennsylvan ia Avenue assisting an injured motorist after a car spun out of control. They stabilized the victim for about ten minutes until rescue crews arrived.
