Fire calls reported through 8 p.m. Wednesday include an automatic alarm at 1473 Taney Ave at 1:49 p.m. Independents, Juniors and Citizens responded. A house fire at 4709 Mill Bottom Rd prompted Mount Airy, New Market, Green Valley and Liberty to respond. Emergency-32 Routine-1.
Extended forecast shows a warm pattern across Western Maryland counties with highs in the mid to upper 80s, 80 in the mountains, and a chance of thunderstorms Saturday. Lows will be in the 60s to 70s, with highs around 90s expected through mid August and above normal precipitation.
A Potomac teen and a 22-year-old Rockville resident died when a 1985 Ford Escort left the road and struck a tree near Boswell Lane. Driver Colin Agostini and passenger Christopher Brades were killed. Sean Agostini sustained injuries. Police say no seat belts were used and alcohol may have contributed. Sean Agostini was injured and hospitalized in fair condition.
A stray lightning strike caused a power outage for about thirty minutes affecting about six hundred homes in Frederick on Wednesday afternoon. Rain was scarce and the city, already parched, did not receive the expected storm.
A 2-year-old security guard at the Holiday Inn on Montgomery Village Avenue was charged Tuesday night with arson in the August 3 motel fire. Robert Scott of Rockville is held on a $10,000 bond. Damage to an unoccupied room was estimated at 1,500 dollars.
