State Demands Appraisals for School Site Land
The State School Board orders county school officials to obtain independent appraisals of property for school funds for future sites near Thurmont and Emmitsburg. A group in Emmitsburg sued in Frederick County Circuit Court alleging the mid‑way Jamison Wivell site should have been used. State officials say fortified appraisals would have protected the county board from action by the commissioners.
