Moonshining crackdown in Maryland faces public apathy
The Maryland Liquor Enforcement Unit fights illicit whisky trade with five agents across counties, noting many moonshiners remain unreported as the public treats bootlegging as noncriminal. Agents seized about 90 operations last year, netting potential state tax losses near 393 000, amid ongoing challenges locating stills and curbing illegal sales.
