Unemployment Rises Slightly in Frederick County June

New wing opens at Frederick County Detention Center
Local and state officials opened a new 112 bed wing at the Frederick County Adult Detention Center marking phase one of a four part expansion. The facility now houses 370 inmates with a 244 capacity and will reclassify inmates to medium security as the wing comes online.

Former counselor guilty of sexual abuse at Maryland ranch
Former child care counselor Willie Charles Spencer of Hagerstown was convicted by Frederick County jurors of sexual abuse of a 15-year-old boy in his care at the Maryland Sheriffs' Youth Ranch near Buckeystown. Jurors acquitted him of assault and battery as sentencing was deferred to mid September with a maximum penalty of 15 years.
