Heartly House expands with $1.2 million taxpayer funded project

Heartly Ing is not disclosed at officials request amid security concerns. The acquisition and renovation total 1.2 million funded entirely by federal state and government grants. The shelter will grow to 28 beds from 15 and add an efficiency apartment while the old building will become four long term affordable housing units. Crisis line counselors handled about 5,000 calls with 196 women and children sheltered, up 10 percent and 36 percent respectively.

Local Republicans slow to read Gingrich book in Frederick County

In Frederick County many GOP leaders have not yet read Newt Gingrich's book. Only two of a dozen local Republican officials surveyed own copies, and only one has opened it. Some plan to read it soon, while others will wait for libraries or lighter schedules.

Drowning mystery near Parise family investigated

City officials weigh airport plans and land deals in Frederick

Frederick officials discussed a possible aviation museum at Frederick Municipal Airport following a letter from the Confederate Air Force in Midland. They planned meetings with Greiner Inc and the FAA to approve a 20 year airport plan while approving beer license extensions for Airway Cafe during the airshow. Also considered were a 10 acre land purchase near the watershed and East Fifth Street zoning as downtown residential. The Kiwanis Club donated 13000 to Bentztown Spring Park for the 250th anniversary and Eastaleo Aluminum gave 5000 to the city celebration.

City ducks debate yields sparse public input

Alderman Frances Baker noted public meetings on the duck issue drew no attendees. Alderman Sally Murphy said the city reduced the duck population before and warned some will remain after treatment.
