Monocacy River forest plan moves toward fall recommendations
The Monocacy River Citizens Advisory Board met in Winchester Hall to debate water quality forests buffers wetlands and aquatic life. Forester Phil Pannill said only about 25 percent of the watershed is forested and that 50 percent would be ideal but unlikely. To raise forestland to 30 percent would require planting 23 000 acres and would take a century at current rates. Board members aim for late summer or early fall approval by county commissioners and the state General Assembly as part of county planning efforts.
