Ambulance needs in Emmitsburg area escalate to add second vehicle
Edith Sariver reports the Emmitsburg area seeks a second ambulance to handle after hours and emergencies when the VW unit is away. Last year the ambulance answered 444 calls traveling 14 423 miles and 142 7 man hours. The Francis X Eider Post No 122 American Legion is asked to fund, operate and equip a second ambulance and seeks donations from town and surrounding areas. A letter drive will be sent. donors may mail checks to Legion Post 221. The July Emmitsburg Society meeting featured a tour of Schifferstadt Restoratory in Brickerstown. July 25 meeting at the home of Mr and Mrs ABZ 25.

Corpse exhibit of infant remains shocks Lake County
Lake County coroner described a carnival display showing 20 infant remains in glass jars with names like Cyclops and Elephant Nose Baby as ghoulish. Exhibitor Chris Michael Christ of Florida faced illegal disposition charges, bonded at $2,000, with a court appearance set for August 15. Authorities investigate origin as pathologist deems remains human.

Crewman Burned in Ship Explosion Near Houston Channel
An explosion aboard a cargo ship left one crewman badly burned. The Hirpnine Corregidor had two crewmen reported accounted shortly after the incident Tuesday. Some crew members were ashore at the time and witnessed the event. First Mate Felix Robiso provided details.
