State Lending Tax Refunds Rollout at 3000 to 4000 Daily
ANNAPOLIS Aug 7 The State Income Tax Division is rolling out refunds at 3000 to 4000 daily as it processes between 150000 and 200000 claims from the first year of employer withholding. Division chief Benjamin F Marsh said about 35000 rebates have been mailed so far and projected daily increases could reach 5000, with a five to six week timeline. He noted many errors and missing employer withholding statements have slowed refunds and that about 25 percent of the 700000 filed returns carry refunds. The state has set aside two million dollars for refunds but may not use all of it. average individual rebates are around 7.00. A force of about 100 employees now works the project.

SixYearOld Girl In Fairly Good Condition After Collision
A six year old rural Middletown girl was treated at Frederick Memorial Hospital for head injuries after colliding with a pickup on U S 40A when she dashed from the roadside. The girl, Mary Lou Shank, was described in fairly good condition. The driver, Carroll E Boyer, 55, Middletown, was traveling west when the girl ran into the truck. The accident occurred about 2 15 p m six miles west of Frederick. Mary Lou is the daughter of Melvin Shank.
