A $10 counterfeit bill used to pay for gasoline at Payne's Filling Station in Emmitsburg led to the arrest of a New York motorist identified as AH Hess, about 30. The station operator alerted state police after a local bank confirmed suspicion. Corp. W. K. May retrieved Hess and contacted the U S Treasury. Secret Service agents investigated and concluded Hess was not the counterfeiter, believing the note was passed to him.
