Assessment figures show Maryland counties shifting wealth in 1887
The Baltimore Sun analyzes state assessments, noting Maryland overall rising to about 874 million with Baltimore City under 58 percent of the total levy. It highlights Caroline and Allegany counties as top gainers, weak growth in Washington and Frederick counties, and a long retrospective on how reassessments since 1852 have altered relative wealth distribution among Montgomery, St. Mary’s, and other counties.
