McKeldin Attacks Reapportionment Criticism

Baltimore AP The Democratic state chairman assailed Theodore R. McKeldin as intellectually hypocritical after his remarks on a reapportionment bill. McKeldin teed off at the Democratic administration at a Annapolis GOP banquet, saying the push to revise the General Assembly favors larger counties. Dr Clarence D Long challenged Republicans to explain their votes on the Pine Northrop plan which would add 21 delegates to four counties. The measure failed by one vote, with 73 Democrats for and 43 against. Gov Tawes endorsed it. Long argued Republican leaders would have backed a broader reapportionment if sincere.
