News from Bhangeal reports a fierce battle between Chinese and Japanese fleets. The Chinese lost the Chen Yuen, the largest battleship left, and two other cruisers were captured or destroyed. Many Chinese sailors were killed or drowned, with reports that German officers aboard Chen Yuen died with the ship. If true, China’s naval power would be crushed, and remaining ships may not risk open port.
