U S Senator Paul Sarbanes announced federal approval of 37.1 million in Interstate Discretionary Funds to add one HOV lane in each direction on 5.6 miles of I-270 from Md 118 to Md 121. The project, expected to ease congestion and accelerate construction to summer 1996, projects traffic to rise from 64,400 to 128,400 by 2015.

Stabbing victim says he was just in the wrong place
Frederick businessman Douglas Zaruba, 45, who was stabbed in the stomach on April 14 while walking with his son along Carroll Creek, says he was merely in the wrong place at the wrong time. Jury acquits man in estranged wife kidnapping case

Caudill, 35, was acquitted of kidnapping his estranged wife at gunpoint near Myersville in 1992 and of false imprisonment, use of a handgun in a crime of violence, and battery. Frederick man flown to Baltimore trauma center after I-70 crash
Early Saturday morning a Frederick man, 22 year old Steven Roc, was flown to R Adams Cowley Shock Trauma Center in Baltimore around 6 44 a m after the car he rode in crossed the center line on I 70 near the Patrick Street exit and collided head on with another vehicle. Roc was in critical condition. The other driver, 19 year old Robert Burley of Frederick, was taken to Frederick Memorial Hospital along with another passenger who was treated and released. Passengers in the second car were treated and released from FMH.
