Pension welfare funds bill faces Senate test

The Senate narrowly passed a pension and welfare funds regulation bill after a long debate over broadening it into general labor legislation. Republicans offered 14 amendments, most defeated, while Mundt’s proposal to bar criminals from officer or trustee roles was accepted 90-0. The measure aims to register funds, require full financial reports, and impose penalties for fraud, with a 4 year review window and an advisory council to labor secretary.

Women s Clubs in Buckeystown Observe Etiquette Skit

Buckeystown Homemakers Club hosted an etiquette skit on April 18 at Mrs Earl Remsbergs home with participants including Mrs am Hurler, Mrs Remsberg, Miss Minnie Keller, Mrs George Hildebrand and Mrs J T Mc Guffie. Beatrice Fehr, Home Demonstration Agent, led a discussion on rules, emphasizing the Golden Rule and courtesy.

Farm Laborer Not Eligible For Payments

The Court of Gar ret e County Circuit Court affirmed an order setting aside an award to Harald Grendorf of Oakland by the State Industrial Accident Commission. The court ruled the farm laborer was engaged in agricultural work when injured and thus not eligible for workers compensation benefits. The decision also upheld the dismissal of Forsyth’s suit for sale of land and left intact the sale of the Hoffman property.

Buckeystown Homemakers Host Spring Luncheon and Meetings

The Buckeystown Homemakers Club held a surprise luncheon April 24 at Buckeystown Methodist Church to honor Miss Catherine Thomas as she departs to live at the Home for the Aged in Frederick. Dr Haskell Miller gave the invocation. 60 attendees included guests from Adamstown Baltimore and local clubs. President Mrs William Hurley presided. spring flower centerpieces were admired and gifts presented.

Kelly and Morris Circus To Visit Frederick Fairgrounds

The Kelly and Morris Circus comes to the Frederick Fairgrounds next Tuesday with two shows at 2 and 8 p.m. Gates open an hour earlier. The program includes a large animal menagerie, horses, acrobats, clowns, wire walkers, and a famous lion act led by Capt. Enger. Proceeds benefit the Jeffersonian Club building fund.
