Remarkable Fish Die Off in Potomac Near Williamsport
The Bute fish commissioner and the Washington County Game and Fish Association will be alerted over a mass kill along the Potomac near Williamsport. Hundreds of dead fish lined the banks and floated downstream with many black bass among the carcasses. Polluted waters from the Polo mill at dam No 5 are blamed as sawdust and debris entered the river. A Williamsport resident reported seeing three hundred fifty dead fish in less than an hour near the Polo mill area and observed dead fish along the Chesapeake and Ohio canal and Conocheague Creek. State fish commissioners in West Virginia and Maryland will be notified immediately.
