Helicopter Applicators Wins Right to Repair
Helicopter Spraying firm Helicopter Applicators won approval from the Frederick County Board of Appeals to repair helicopters on the Old Receiver Road property from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. Monday through Friday, with engine testing allowed 11 p.m. to 2 p.m. on those days. The board treated the request as a fresh start, noting past zoning violations tied to different ownership and filings. The company, which contracts with Maryland and private landowners to spray pests, agreed not to store chemicals on site or fly from the property, promising to truck chemicals in for repairs. President Glenn Martin and other owners hail from Western Maryland and southern Pennsylvania.

Insurance rate increases coming for county workers
Frederick County faces a health insurance cost rise of about 30 percent next year as claims grow and more employees participate. County budget director Harold Keller notes both county and employee shares rise, with single coverage contributions moving from about $4 to $5.20 per pay period and county costs from $24 to near $30. The county expects 1985 funding to cover the increase and a shortfall of roughly $191,000, while the Aetna report projects higher monthly claims. Employee enrollment rose 6.5 percent from 179 to 723, with total claims and costs reflecting the rising trend.
