Thurmont Elects Officials and Debt Free Status Declared
In Thurmont voters chose William J. Stonemayer and Samuel Besnett as commissioners. The town reports debt elimination since 1919, with a history of bonded debt and contingent obligations paid down, and a current surplus around 2,60. The election followed the town’s plan to modernize power with an engine generator and automate controls. Major Stoneraid notes the town’s unique financial health for its size and tax rate.
