Police fire heroes honored at Montgomery awards program
In a midnight flood on May 7 1989 Montgomery County officer Robert L Reed braved chest high water to rescue a woman and infant, earning the Silver Medal. Firefighter-Rescuer Russell Olden also received a Silver Medal for a rescue. Bronze medals went to seven officers and firefighters including Sgt Edward A Clarke and others who protected a hostage child and saved a man from a 180 foot crane. Honorable Mentions honored several others for service and ongoing safety training by Sgt Eugene E Herbert retired after 45 years.
