State Phone Strike Ends in Baltimore With Local Arbitration
An agreement signed in Baltimore ends the 19 day No onwige telephone strike. A Maryland Federation of Telephone Workers local arbitration board will decide issues including wages, geographical differentials, and night shifts. The contract allows for six a.m. return to work for plant and maintenance staff, with operators to cross the picket line. The deal is praised as a potential national pattern by labor conciliator Lucien B. Rye.
