Creek Marys Blood by Dee Brown profiles a four generation saga
Dee Brown author of Bury My Heart at Wounded Knee writes Creek Marys Blood about four generations of American Indian life from Georgia and the Carolinas to the Far West at the opening of the 20th century. Creek Mary, a real person, marries a white trader and a Cherokee warrior. The Brown novel traces the family across East and Santa Fe reservations, battles with the white man at Little Big Horn, flight to Canada, and massacre at Wounded Knee. Brown, 71, notes it is his first novel in more than a decade and that he continues to favor 19th century settings. He grew up in Little Rock and later worked as a librarian in Washington, writing fiction in spare time before WWII. The book is a Literary Guild Dual Main Selection and published by Holt, Rinehart and Winston.
