Core Conference Endorses Core Curriculum For Changing World
Dr. Neilson Bossing of the University of Southern Illinois urged teachers at the Border States Core Conference that a core curriculum is the only pattern of study to meet fast changing personal and social problems. About 300 teachers from Maryland Virginia West Virginia North Carolina and Washington attended the two day event at West Frederick Junior High School. Bossing voiced confidence that core will reassert itself as a vital educational tool and noted Maryland first recognized the program nationally. He warned against hysteria over Sputnik era labels and cautioned critics while predicting core is only beginning to move. The conference continues with nine observations supporting growing momentum including textbooks teacher prep broader integrated patterns critical thinking and expanding coverage across math science social studies and English.

Earl Edward Kolb Jr. 34 of Frederick faces eight false pretense and nine forgery counts after writing checks to himself in January and April 16. Police say he forged Ruth Ganley’s name and cashed at Fox's Balt Store Catoctin Golf Center Neal and Kennedy's Garage Village Hardware Hamilton's Market Seeger’s Hardware Brown's Liquor Store Keefer's Liquor Store. He is jailed on 6000 bond awaiting preliminary hearing next week.

Early Morning Accident Damages Two Cars in Ridgeville
Two cars were damaged in an early morning collision at the Md 144 Md 27 intersection in Ridgeville. Four people were hospitalized at Frederick Memorial, with Mrs Margaret L Yohn 48 in critical condition.
