An explosion at Ott mine No 2 of the Davis Coal and Coke company near HK Garden West Virginia entombs twenty two men, mostly Americans, with debris blocking rescue progress. Rescuers cut through wall to approach the mine from an adjacent section, now about 4000 feet from the outside entry. Additional rescue engines and crews have arrived from Thomas fifteen miles away.
