Cowdrick barn fire in Bellefonte, Pa destroys contents including three horses and two cows. loss 2500 with nearly full insurance.
A lively dance at the home of George Garttell near Lisbon attracted many from Howard, Baltimore, Montgomery, Carroll, and Frederick counties. The Citizen reports the Greenfield Mills proprietor plans forming a company to construct a pike from Adams Town to Greenfield Mills. He asks supporters to supply stock. if enough is raised, the County Commissioners will fund the remaining amount.

Late Tuesday evening James Hatcher, a Washingtonian painting the Woodlawn Hotel in Hockville, fell 30 feet when a swinging ladder collapsed. He and his wife have one child. The canal receivers continued their inspection tour today under heavy rain. At dam No 3 they faced the worst break yet seen, though not as severe as the 877 break. If un unforeseen delays occur, the receivers may reach the journey’s end by Saturday. President Gambrifi and Superintendent Mulvaner were seen at Point of Rocks, likely to join the engineers trailing the party.
Ala McGinty lost her bearings near the stone bridge one night this week and sank into about 15 inches of mud in the creek. Nearby August Mehrling heard her cries, dragged her from the gas house smell, and she walked away safely after taking a drink of the “crathur.”

Fires in Carroll County yesterday and Wednesday destroyed the residences of Jacob Slonaker and Mary Ann Creager at Union Town and that of Clinton Jenkins near Franklinville. Losses run to £50 with no insurance.
The Catoctin Clarion enters its twentieth year with the current issue. It was established at the late Wm. Need in 1871 and has been managed by Mr C. E. Cassell for the past twelve years. The paper is bright and newsy and worthy of more prosperity.
