County weighs mining landfill to free space and aid farm
Frederick County weighs a plan by Dan Quinn and John Boyd to mine the Reich's Ford Road landfill to recycle waste and create space for future disposal. The proposal would involve charging the county 30 dollars per ton for recycling and 18 dollars per ton for extracting waste, with a meeting planned for April 30. The Maryland Department of the Environment notes the site is outdated and difficult to retrofit, while officials consider closing and monitoring it. The plan is unlikely to proceed at the current site without broader feasibility.
