Frederick County commissioners heard a sharp appeal from the library director for a security guard. The director said, “We do not play budget games,” emphasizing the need to protect staff and patrons and safeguard the library system amid ongoing security concerns.
Frederick County will gain about 6.5 million dollars in state revenues for fiscal 1988 starting July 1, led by 3.55 million for education under Civiletti and APEX. The budget also boosts highway funds after new transportation taxes, with 1.11 million for Frederick, and raises pension and Social Security payments to teachers and retirees. Library funding remains contested as director Martha Reynolds pushes for 1.075 million, highlighting safety concerns after a stabbing incident.
Rescue teams with dogs and microphones sift through tons of concrete as 19 workers remain trapped after an unfinished high-rise building collapsed like dominoes. Relatives fear for missing brother Anthony Rinaldi as others report no survivors.
