Montgomery County to Lay Off 986 Probationary Teachers
Barry Bernardo, Montgomery School Superintendent, proposes laying off 986 probationary teachers due to light fiscal constraints and declining enrollments. The move may be reversed after May 15 if council funding allows, with recall rights and severance for affected staff. The action follows budget cuts and negotiated contract terms with MCEA, and faces council scrutiny and possible protests.
