County buys former Penney building in Frederick for county use
The Frederick County Commissioners completed a 369000 purchase of the former J C Penney store on North Market Street. The county will house the Department of Social Services on at least two floors while other agencies may occupy the rest. The Board of Education may use the basement as a media center. The closing at Winchester Hall drew Todd creditors and was described as hairy as six checks were issued from funds set aside for a new courthouse.

Dr Joseph Murray Baxter a well known Frederick physician died Tuesday April 22 at Frederick Memorial Hospital. He practiced in the Frederick area from 1928 to 1972 and served fifty years as a private practitioner. He was born March 17 1898 in Saint John New Brunswick Canada and studied at University of New Brunswick and McGill University. He is survived by his widow Rhea B Longley Baxter and contributions may be made to St John’s Catholic Church building fund.
