Maryland 15 Percent Telephone Rate Increase Sought
The Public Service Commission likely will decide by June 1 whether to grant a 15 percent across the board rate rise for Maryland telephone service, filed Friday by Chesapeake and Potomac Telephone Co. The move would raise local and long distance revenues by about 40.3 million dollars yearly, with a common home line fee rising from 8.10 to 9.30 dollars though coin box calls stay at ten cents. The company cites dramatic changes since 1968 and says investment rose 184 million dollars, 32 percent, while earnings fall below the true cost of service.
