Court Orders Polio Shots for Child Over Mother's Objections
A Superior Court in Chicago ordered Alyson Conn a three year old reared Christian Scientist to receive the full three polio inoculations over her mother’s opposition. Judge Marty Hersherson ruled the public interest requires vaccination and that the mother’s religious views do not justify withholding treatment. The custody dispute prompted the order and the appeal process was indicated.
