Storage For Wheat Needed In Maryland Amidst Storage Shortage
Maryland faces a severe wheat storage squeeze as about 4,000 bushels are to be harvested within three months. Baltimore elevators, railroads, and CCC stocks limit space, risking losses for 9,200 farmers and dealers. The CCC plans no new removals before 1954 harvest, prompting calls for on-farm storage loans and expanded farm storage.

Cattle Managers Weigh Pasture Use and Bloat Risk
Dr. John E. Foster of the University of Maryland warns cattlemen to delay grazing on alfalfa until early bloom to reduce bloat. He notes 50 percent grass in pasture lowers danger from red clover and explains why early spring growth is riskiest. Cattle should have nearby coarse hay as a safety measure, and some animals are more prone to bloat than others. Culling chronic bloaters is considered by some, with decisions tailored to each farm’s conditions.

Sweet Corn Yield Rules Per Acre From Maryland Expert
College Park April 223i Think of sweet corn yields in terms of ears per acre says Andy Duncan University of Maryland extension vegetable specialist. The state average is 2 tons per acre but growers should aim for 3 tons per acre requiring about 12 000 ears per acre. For safety 15 060 stalks per acre are recommended with rows 36 inches apart and 90 percent germination. Seed treatment options exist and rainfall and fertilizer help, but good practices can raise average production.
