Wanda Stopa a Detroit native and former acquaintance of advertising man K. Smith shot and killed Henry Manning the caretaker at Smiths country home and fired two shots at Smiths wife. She fled saying she would kill him downtown as police and state prosecutors pursued her and her companion Ted Glascow.

Balloon passes over Abi Jene and Wichita Falls in Texas race
One of seven balloons in the international classic crossed Abi Jene in the Texas panhandle shortly after 5 AM. A balloon sighted over Harrah Oklahoma at about 9 30 AM was high and unidentifiable. Another balloon believed to be among the seven passed over Wichita Falls Texas at 3 30 AM heading northeast.

John Sheffield, a carpenter, fell from a ladder while placing glass on the top floor of the Frederick county jail. Turnkey Kolb found him in the yard and summoned aid. He was taken home on East Second Street by John Mehrling and a physician was called. no bones are believed broken.

Aged minister breaks hip after stair fall
