Mount St Mary's wins 2 million state grant for renovations

Gov. William Donald Schaefer signed a bill granting Mount St. Marys College a 2 million dollar matching grant to renovate Coach Science Building and fund four smaller projects. The college must raise 2.5 million to match within two years.

Duck-cleaning efforts honored in Maryland event

Steven Smith of Frederick County Animal Control Center was honored for rescuing and cleaning oil-immersed ducks after a January spill in Baker Park. He was a runner-up for the Tawes Award for a Clean Environment, named after Gov J Millard Tawes and presented by the Maryland Department of the Environment and the Maryland Petroleum Council. First place went to Michael Taylor, Rockville Public Works, for a fuel leak recovery system saving Rockville $75,000.
