New Education Method Gives Speech to Mentally Retarded Girl
An 11-year-old from Rosewood Training School, once nonverbal, has begun speaking after two months of sense training. Teacher Mrs. Wilbur Simmons led a demonstration before the Kiwanis Club, detailing how identification of colors sounds and tastes builds vocabulary and basic self-care. The program aims to move children toward regular schooling and life beyond the institution, as Rosewood expands training and visits increase.
