San Francisco April 23 Reports indicate the execution of Theodore Durrant may be halted as two state prison directors oppose hanging while two support it and a fifth remains undecided. Governor Budd has not stated his stance on clemency though insiders say he privately backs Durrant's guilt.

He served sixteen terms in the House of Representatives and spent fourteen years in public service. A veteran Democrat, he guided caucus affairs and remained a respected adviser even in old age.
John G Jennings filed a $100,000 damages suit in Scranton against 20 defendants including Lehigh Valley Railroad and county officials. The suit alleges conspiracy to pack the jury and tamper with judges over injuries from the Mud Run disaster. General Miles seeks Greek war observe trip. President to decide. Indiana State sues Vandalia Railroad to recover over $2,006,600 for school fund under old charter.

New York April 23 Anton C Christensen, long entangled with New York and Michigan officials over an escape and embezzlement case, was released from custody after a settlement involving $10. He was returned to Michigan with Sheriff Ferguson and Assistant District Attorney Sampson, who later faced charges of aiding his escape.
