Million-dollar art theft hits Pitti Palace in Florence
Police suspect thieves who fled with over 1 million dollars in works by Rubens and others from the Pitti Palace were “filling an order.” They bypassed Raphael and Titian canvases, citing the small Rubens piece The Three Graces and nine Flemish works as portable. Investigators did not identify buyers or destinations. Insider notes say security upgrades were not yet active. The robbery occurred during pre-dawn tours via skylight access. The loss includes works by Poelenburg Bril Vangitelli and Molyn the Elder, all once part of the Medici collection.
