Emmitsburg Faces Property Ownership Rule in Town Elections
Emmitsburg backs a property ownership requirement for town candidates amid a wider county trend. The ordinance, similar to ones struck down in Takoma Park and Frostburg, keeps barring young aspirants like Patrick Ott, 25, who rents rather than owns $1,000 in land or property. Officials note court action may overturn it, with neighboring towns moving to repeal or amend before upcoming elections.
