Higher soybean yields drive rising profits and costs per acre
The piece argues higher yields lower cost per bushel even as per acre costs rise. It cites Illinois data from 30 to 60 bushels per acre, showing profits rise with yield and that most costs occur at the 30 bushel level. It highlights timely planting, narrower rows, and fertilization as ways to lift yields with modest added expense. It notes Roy Flannery's New Jersey bean result of $4 per acre.
