Cancer vaccine advances move toward human trials
The Frederick paper reports on Hanna and Hoover adapting animal cancer vaccine work to humans. They refined live tumor cell vaccines by irradiating cells to keep them alive but nonproliferative, enabling a pilot study for colorectal cancer and planning a 200 to 300 patient randomized trial over three years. Early results show small side effects and some patients remaining cancer-free, but definitive outcomes will take years.
