Agnew's former lawyer to testify in bribe repayment suit
A Maryland circuit court ordered Spiro Agnew's former lawyer George White Jr. to testify as part of a civil case seeking repayment of bribes allegedly accepted by Agnew during his time as governor. The judge ruled Agnew waived confidentiality by discussing conversations in his book Go Quietly or Else. The probe ties to a 1970s tax settlement and undisclosed sources of unreported income, with other Agnew associates also involved.

Buffalo Mayor Griffin Seen as Second-Term Favorite
Buffalo’s blunt and combative mayor James D. Griffin is viewed as a shoo-in for a second term. Endorsed by Republicans and supported by Conservative and Right-to-Life parties, he’s praised for downtown revitalization fueled by federal seed money and a $440-million rapid transit plan. Critics argue he advanced plans started by others, yet he remains a powerful figure in a blue-collar Buffalo with diverse ethnic communities.
