Compost center deal ends two year dispute in Rockville
Sugarloaf Citizens Association President Jane Hunter and Montgomery County Executive M Duncan signed a Friday agreement to settle the two year dispute over the composting operation. The pact grants the association a stone house and a dairy barn to renovate for residents use on 70 acres adjacent to the county composting center and deeds 90 acres of agricultural land to the association while the county runs the center. It also specifies hours of operation, material totals, and ongoing yard waste reduction efforts. Sugarloaf withdraws the request to remove the 1993 building and the asphalt pad expansion, and Sugarloaf will manage the historic dairy barn after restoration. The county pays all Sugarloaf’s legal fees.
