Georgetown Student Wins Boston Marathon Victory
GU senior Jack Fultz from Arlington, Virginia won the 80th Boston Marathon in 2 hours 20 minutes 9 seconds, overcoming extreme heat to surge from behind with about eight miles left. Mexico's Mario Cuevas finished second and Puerto Rico's Jose de Jesus third as Fultz earned the laurel wreath from Gov. Dukakis and Mayor White. The heat, with readings near 116 degrees, prevented the course record from being broken. Foster of New Zealand commented on the conditions. Locally no runners participated this year.
