Watering for Peak Milk: Clean Troughs Boost Dairy Output
Dairy producers face multiple factors in falling peak milk, but water supply and quality often get overlooked. Cows need about five pounds of water per pound of milk, total daily around 36 gallons for 60 pounds of milk, with 32 gallons extra beyond what feed provides. Clean, accessible troughs and regular disinfection prevent algae and spoiled water, supporting consistent production and cow health.
