Rise Of Red Army Bigger Headache For Malenkov
Allied diplomats say Malenkov’s bid for power in the Kremlin is hindered by a rising Red Army influence. The army gains in politics, with officers elected to inner party councils in republics and key posts in satellites like Poland and Bulgaria, signaling a shift in balance away from the Communist party. Foreign relations with China also complicate his grip as Moscow seeks industrial equipment from the West at Geneva while purging rivals at home.
