Indiana Youth Fined for Cigarette Paper in Pocket
Chester Bell, a young man, was fined 25 dollars and costs totaling 35 dollars in police court for possessing cigarette papers. He claimed never to have smoked. He was arrested on another charge and searched. the papers were found in his pocket. City Judge Edward AM White warned a repeat offense could bring a 100 dollar fine.

Will Appeal to Supreme Court in Smoking Case

Knoxville Tenn April 14 W J Oliver prominent railroad contractor filed a bill in chancery court against Miss Nonnie Cross seeking an injunction from hounding him and from interfering with his office residence and railroad construction in this and other states especially Georgia Chancellor Sneed granted the injunction and set a $5000 bond Some time ago Cross sued Oliver for 100000 damages for alleged breach of promise the alleged marriage proposal being made while Oliver was a widower and before his second marriage He says he has paid her about 2000 in full settlement of her claims.

Reunion of First Defenders Held in Pottsville
By April 19 a reunion of the First Defenders, five Pennsylvania companies that answered Lincoln’s 1861 call, was held in Pottsville with an Altura Street parade led by two Pennsylvania National Guard companies. William J. McQuade of Port Carbon was elected president and a banquet followed as veterans gathered. In Des Moines Iowa a banker was indicted for fraud in a separate report noting grand jury counts against Shiner & Sons of Birmingham for alleged banking fraud and a deficit around 19 600 from railroad building and speculation.
