Snyder seeks more manpower for Frederick County Sheriff’s Office

Sheriff Robert C. Snyder asked Frederick County Commissioners for four new deputies in fiscal 1986, seeking three for patrol plus a courtroom and civil process role, while the panel approved only two. He described a 12 hour since the study ordered push for immediate staffing and restructured patrol into three shifts with four to five deputies per team, plus a new central command via David Doxten. He also pressed for a kitchen manager, lab table, and file cabinets at the jail, arguing for tighter supervision and round the clock coverage and citing plans to deploy deputies at fire company events to curb disturbances. Commissioner Galen Clagett questioned courts and civil process needs and signaled he would support only one additional deputy beyond current budget.

Frederick mayor opposes county police plan

Mayor Ronald N. Young criticizes Frederick County Commissioners for delaying a county police system to study the issue. He argues against duplicative costs and favors community input rather than rushing into a county force.
