Fire destroys Sykesville School and parts of old building
Early morning fire in Sykesville Maryland destroyed the junior and senior high sections of the school. Eight fire departments from three counties battled the blaze for nearly five hours and saved little of the old structure. State Police cited no water nearby for the firefighters and crews focused on protecting the newer elementary section.

Driver Fined Twenty Dollars After Head-On Crash
A 21-year-old Woodville District boy Norman Runkles Jr was found guilty of reckless driving for a head on collision on Woodville Road last August. Substitute Magistrate Edward J Smith imposed a $20 fine plus costs. Trooper Joe Plume filed the charge. Runkles testified he blacked out before the crash and recalls nothing. Two Autos Wrecked In Accident On Route 194
Two autos were wrecked in separate collisions west of Walkersville and near Union Bridge. Claude Stinnett of Walkersville drove a 195? DeSoto eastbound on Route 194 when it collided with Maurice J. Floyd of Frederick driving a 1954 Chrysler, with no charges reported. A second crash on Clemsonville Road near Union Bridge involved Richard Eugene Helms and Paul L. Testerman in a 1955 Mercury and a Ford, damaging the Mercury $150 and the Ford $50, with no charges yet filed.

In Easton Maryland a former Easton Police Department clerk, Howard Landwehr 23, was charged with armed robbery after a store proprietor Robert Slaughter 61 was shot in the neck and cheek during a holdup at his general store. Auto Demolished On Coppermine Road
A 1955 Glasmoyne was demolished in an accident on Coppermine Road three miles east of Woodsboro. Richard M. Sharrer, 27, of Frederick, drove the auto. Miss June E. King, 21, of New London, a passenger, was treated at Frederick Memorial Hospital for neck and shoulder injuries and admitted. Sharrer was uninjured. State Police say Sharrer appeared to sleep and the car rolled over, according to officer Robert Storer.

Woman Run Over By Her Own Trailer
A Montgomery County woman, about 50, was seriously injured when the trailer she and her husband were moving with ran over her after jackknifing on U S 240 near the Hyattstown interchange. The incident occurred just before 10 am as the two moved from Middlebrook to Chicago. the trailer slid onto the grass divider, and Mrs. Marks was struck when she opened the car door. She was taken to Suburban Hospital in fair condition with possible internal injuries and a possible ankle fracture. The car and trailer were damaged and left in the road’s center grass divider.
